The Frauen-Bundesliga has created a new league association led by Katharina Kiel. This follows recent disagreements with the German Football Association, but both sides now seek cooperation.
The Frauen-Bundesliga clubs have founded the Ligaverband Frauen-Bundesliga FBL e.V., with Katharina Kiel as president. This new body aims to strengthen the professional framework of women's football in Germany.
Despite earlier conflicts, the German Football Association (DFB), represented by President Bernd Neuendorf, attended the founding event in Frankfurt. Kiel expressed hope for future cooperation, emphasizing the need for open dialogue to advance the league.
The 14 clubs involved have raised concerns about the DFB's commitment to prior agreements. They want the DFB to engage in meaningful talks to protect their interests as the league develops.
The DFB plans to invest approximately €106 million over eight years, but clubs estimate their needs could reach up to €700 million. Kiel noted that clubs might consider independent paths if necessary to achieve full professionalization.
The future partnership between the DFB and the Frauen-Bundesliga remains uncertain. However, Kiel stressed that collaboration is still possible if both sides maintain open communication to resolve challenges.
